PHOENIX, AZ (October 4, 2026) – Berkleigh Jade Bond should still be alive today. On Memorial Day, May 25, 2026, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper shot and killed Berkleigh, a 39-year-old mother, during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Benson, Arizona. Litster Dugwyler, which represents Berkleigh’s children, has reviewed the body camera footage that DPS produced to the firm in response to its public records request.
The footage is disturbing, and it reveals critical omissions from DPS’s account of the shooting. Because DPS has released the footage through public records requests, it may soon circulate publicly. We ask the public to remember that Berkleigh was a mother whose children are still grieving.
Litster Dugwyler calls on DPS to publish all its policies, procedures, training standards, general orders, and field orders on its website, in a place the public can easily find and review. These should include its policies on de-escalation and use of deadly force. Arizonans have a right to know the rules DPS troopers are expected to follow.
Our focus now is to hold DPS and its trooper accountable and to secure justice for Berkleigh and her children. Given our ongoing investigation and future legal action, Litster Dugwyler will not comment further on specific additional evidence at this time.
